If you have a question, ask !
Question: How do you to get dolphins to come up to your kayak ?
Answer: Wild bottlenose dolphins usually see a lot of boats floating around the sea. So your kayak won´t be the latest discovery that would attract them. It is better to row into their trajectory. When you see them coming from a distance get ready, be there well before they come and then just wait until they meet up with you. They will then choose if they want to avoid you or if they want to check you out.
Question: Is it dangerous to swim with dolphins ?
Answer: Dolphins usually don´t show aggressive behavior to humans. A lot has been written about aggressive behavior in the pod. There are some rare cases of dolphins attacking humans, but to my knowledge nobody ever got killed.
You might, however, drown while swimming with them. Dolphins are big ! Some people get scared and panic. And for those without fear, one is tempted to dive down and stay there...
Swimming with them is quite exhausting.
Question: Can you hear dolphins under water ?
Answer: Yes, very clearly ! They use all kinds of clicking and whistling sounds.
Question: What does it mean when dolphins hit their tail fin in the water ?
Answer: This is their group call and means something like "Everybody in line !". You can see this quite often when they migrate or when their is a stressful situation, for example a jetski zooming by.
Question: Can you touch wild dolphins ?
Well, we have been swimming with the same pods for over two years and we never touched one. I think it is really up to them to decide if they want to be touched or not. The dolphins do come very close, within centimeters, and swim with us. But as soon as a hand moves out they move away.
So just keep your hands close to your body and enjoy ...

We regularly see large pods of dolphins here at Moonbeach. We would be interested to know what type of dolphins these are. (Please see the photos on the link below).

We are located two and half hours from Cairo near Ras Sudr and wondered if your dolphin sightings take place nearby?
We would be grateful for your response.

Hi James,
your dolphins are bottlenose dolphins, there is no doubt.
Nice pictures on your blog ! I see you had a nice session.
No, we are not on the Ras Sudr side of the Red Sea. All our sessions were in a place not far from Ain Suhna.
Best
Daniel
