Winter on the Red Sea coast

Pretty cold still here at the coast. Behind our windshelter we are well protected against the wind and when the sun is out it is quite nice. From time to time a cloud passes and then it gets cold. Steady wind, not too strong though, rough sea.
Yesterday I stared at the horizon all day and nothing happened... until it was 4:30 p.m., a big group of at least 20 individuals swim south. Hop into the kayak for a couple of kilometers we travel together. No swimming this time. It´s too cold.

Today two trawlers were fishing far too close to the coast. Since the revolution law and order are newly interpreted. We watch some dolphins in their tow. That was at 2:30 pm. But the usual pod is nowhere to be seen and we have to leave too soon...

Let´s hope next weekend is warmer !

Lone mother with her calf

Flat sea, blue sky.
No dolphins around until 3:30 p.m. Then a rare sight: a lone dolphin female with her calf. Maybe they got seperated from their pod ?

2 hour dolphin session

All the dolphins come to watch Charlotte swim belly up

It's the perfect day, blue sky, just a little breeze and not too hot. The dolphins are way out there in the sea following a trawler. I didn't see them, of course, but Charlotte with her eagle eyes did. And we are on our way.

Today we followed the pods up north until they turned around to swim back south. We have finally discovered their turning point. Which is just 2 km from our bay.

For about two hours we kayaked with the group going in frequently. The water is getting a bit warmer.

At one point Charlotte swam belly up and all the dolphins came looking at her. She saw a crowd poking theirs noses at her. Then the dolphin in the foreground of the picture above then followed suit and turned around, swimming belly up and then looked back at Charlotte...

Later, when I went in I had a very interactive session with them until they swam away. A moment later I hear a very clear straight whistle - a sound very similar to the old waterboiler on the stove . I couldn't make out where it came from when suddenly a dolphin sped past me at top velocity. Vraaouuuum....
He, that didn't feel very nice. What the heck was this meant to be ?
Reminded me of Mubarak flying his airforce low over Taghreer square during the revolution...

The dolphins started hunting from then on.
